WCCM - Toronto BACKGROUND
WCCM-Toronto (World Community for Christian Meditation - Toronto) is an affiliate of the Canadian Christian Meditation Community (Montreal) and, in turn, of the World Community for Christian Meditation, based in London, England. WCCM worldwide follows the Christian tradition of contemplative prayer revived by Benedictine monk: John Main OSB.

Together with its member groups, WCCM is a non-profit, ecumenical and interdenominational body with members in over 100 countries.
Fr. Laurence Freeman OSB, a Benedictine monk, is Director of the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM). His spiritual guide was Dom John Main whom he accompanied to Canada in 1977. In Montreal, they established a Benedictine community, teaching and practising Christian meditation largely among lay people, from which began the expansion of the tradition around the world.
WCCM-Toronto has been holding monthly Christian meditation teaching meetings for over 30 years. The Toronto meetings were started in 1979 by John Main himself, who (along with Fr. Laurence Freeman) came regularly to Toronto.

After John Main’s death in 1982, Fr. Laurence and others continued these visits from Montreal until the closing of the Benedictine Priory in 1991.

The Toronto Community has maintained the program without a break in the years since then.
